Underground Adventures: Exploring the Cave of the Goddess Vacuna and a Traditional Barbecue

A fascinating excursion to the Grotta Grande di Muro Pizzo, in the Monteleone Sabino area. This moderately difficult trek, suitable for everyone (ages 5 and up), begins in the town of Monteleone Sabino (496 m) and heads toward the cave of the goddess Vacuna. We'll reach the entrance to the Grotta Grande at 840 m, following a dirt path through the typical vegetation of the Sabine Mountains, including holm oaks and junipers. The cave, first explored in 1887, features numerous chambers rich in stalactites and stalagmites, and tunnels that create a labyrinth, along with Roman artifacts related to the cult of water. The exploration is also suitable for children, who can observe small colonies of bats.

Before visiting the cave, we'll have a lunch break with a tasty barbecue: bruschetta, sausages, arrosticini, grilled radicchio, artisanal biscuits, and wine.
