Cervara, the Artists' Village
Nestled in the rock
The village, located a short distance from Rome and immersed in the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park, is an open-air museum.
Situated at an altitude of over 1000 metres, the village boasts the distinction of being the highest municipality in the province of Rome and the second in Lazio after Filettino.
In the 1980s, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, together with his students and local residents, began creating sculptures, forms, and portraits on the limestone rock, giving rise to what soon became known as the “rock-carved village” of Cervara di Roma.
